The Criminology Department of the College of Arts and Sciences will strictly implement CHED Memorandum No. 37, Series of 2010 this semester. The memorandum provides that: “only BS Criminology students who have completed academic units shall be allowed to enroll in the one-semester practicum requirement.”
In an interview, Criminology Chairperson Albin A. Ditay said, “we need to give students ultimatum to push them to work hard but we are flexible about it.”
Ditay also expressed his sentiments on students’ behavior. “Maraming mga studyante ang masyadong relax (A lot of our students are too relaxed).”
CAS Dean, Dr. Romeo C. Lopez also explained that Crim 32- Criminal Research and Statistics was offered during the second semester of their third year. It was extended in the first semester of their senior year. However, up to now, no student has produced a hardbound.
Last Friday, the Department met with the students to iron things out. It was announced that the Department will deliberate on whether or not fourth year students will be allowed to enroll in their practicum. This is in view of the leeway given by CHED in the same memorandum which provides that: “However, the HEI may allow the graduating students to enroll not more than six units in addition to the practicum.”
