Cultural Affairs Chairman, Moises O. Gallon justifies his plan to impose a P300- peso fine for the absence of chorale and marching band members notwithstanding their disapproval.

Showing to TSC the Board of Regents approved guidelines on membership grants to cultural affairs-related groups in the University, Gallon pointed the fifth provision which grounds the student from his scholarship after four absences.

Gallon expressed that he has seen increasing absences of chorale and marching band members. Some members are also tardy despite his on-time show up.

Accordingly, the money that will be raised from the fines will shoulder the day-to-day expenses of the office from the snacks of the members after performance to the purchase of their immediate office needs such as guitar strings, batteries, props and make-ups. Gallon pointed that for 15 years as chairman, he has been shouldering the snacks of the students since the school does not fund these expenses save for major university performances. He also added that request for supplies will take a year to arrive.

In the end Gallon said, “they will not be affected with my proposal if they follow the rule. I am not after of the money, I am after of the commitment of the scholars in our organization”.
